RE at John Henry Newman

Religious Education at John Henry Newman Academy is a valued part of the school curriculum among pupils and staff. It is not only academically rigorous, encouraging critical thinking and lively debate, but also offers vital opportunities for children to reflect and consider big questions making it deeply personal. Our pupils are encouraged to reflect and question beliefs, explore commonality between their faith and those of others as well as  showing empathy towards people of all faiths and those who have no faith. Our Christian values of Love, Courage, Celebration and Community are reinforced regularly and explored through RE, and Collective Worship, as well as being deeply embedded within the school ethos.
We believe all children should be given the opportunity to 'Let their Light Shine' (Matthew 5:16) and our RE curriculum helps to support and nourish this.
We use Understanding Christianity (A resource about teaching Christianity) and Discovery R.E.(A work scheme about religious education) to teach RE.
