This term in Writing, Year 4 pupils developed their narrative skills by exploring both setting and character descriptions before combining these elements to create their own original stories. We focused on choosing ambitious vocabulary, using descriptive language, and including key details so that readers could clearly imagine scenes and characters. As part of this process, pupils worked collaboratively by swapping character descriptions with a partner and attempting to draw the character accurately, checking whether enough information had been included. This work closely linked to the Year 4 National Curriculum, which encourages pupils to plan, draft, evaluate, and improve their writing while developing a rich and varied vocabulary.
