2025/26 - Year 6 Learning About Staying Safe

Year 6 pupils at John Henry Newman Academy recently took part in an important workshop focused on staying safe and understanding drugs. During the session, pupils explored the difference between medicines that help keep us healthy, such as Paracetamol and dangerous or illegal drugs.

Our Year 6 children showed great knowledge when asked to name harmful substances and took part in discussions about what to do if someone asked them to carry a package in exchange for money or gifts, or if they were to come across drugs in the street. A key message from the session was the importance of speaking to a trusted adult, both in school and at home, if something doesn’t feel right.

We were incredibly proud of how maturely and thoughtfully our Year 6 pupils engaged with this important topic and the confidence they showed in knowing how to keep themselves safe.
