Term 5

Year 5 had an incredible Term 5, packed with exciting projects and adventures! ️‍A major highlight was our DT cooking project, where the children adapted and cooked their own Spaghetti Bolognese recipes and even made labeled jars for it. They loved taking home their delicious creations to share with their families. Another focus was our Art installation, where the children designed miniature dioramas based on various themes and presented them in a gallery setting for their classmates to admire. Both classes also enjoyed their final trip of the year to Jack Peers, where they explored the local area and relished the beauty of the outdoors. It was a term filled with creativity, learning, and fun!

Term 4

Year Five had an exhilarating visit from the Radley College P.E. Department this morning! They delved into a myriad of new skills encompassing power, strength, coordination, agility, and speed. The selected students chosen by Radley College will have the opportunity to partake in a course on Saturday mornings at Radley College, where they will explore a variety of new sports. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Pete, Nathan, and Mia from Radley College, as well as Grant, Finn, and Romy from The Oxford Academy for this enriching experience!

In Term 4, Year 5 delved deeper into the captivating world of Ancient Greece, immersing themselves in both history and English lessons. ️ They put their creative spin on a famous myth, ‘Theseus and the Minotaur’, showcasing their storytelling prowess. Additionally, they ventured into new mathematical territories, exploring the interconnectedness of decimals, percentages, and fractions. They also embraced “Healthy Eating Week” with gusto through the ‘Eat Them to Defeat Them’ campaign, while unleashing their artistic flair with lino print art and daffodil collages for the Easter breakfast. Furthermore, their journey at the Into University centre provided valuable life skills, from budgeting to researching and presenting on intriguing topics like Space. Year 5 continues to thrive, making the most of every learning opportunity!

Term 3

What an incredible term it has been for Year 5! Their trip to Jack Peers was a highlight, where they immersed themselves in the wonders of camouflage and concealment amidst nature’s beauty. Back in the classroom, they’ve been engaging with innovative learning methods like secret code marking, honing their problem-solving skills in a fun and interactive way. ️Additionally, their exploration of Spanish vocabulary, including the four seasons (Las Estaciones), has been both enriching and exciting. And let’s not forget the joyous celebration of their attendance achievement with a lively party for ten consecutive days of full attendance! Here’s to another term filled with growth, learning, and unforgettable experiences!

Term 2

Year 5 absolutely crushed it in term 2, capping it off with an unforgettable Stone Age Day! Imagine the scene: berry stew simmering over crackling flames, the aroma wafting through the air, while students embarked on a daring woolly mammoth hunt—channeling our ancient ancestors like never before. Not to mention, the Christmas Fair was a roaring success! Both classes hustled hard, crafting stalls that attracted hordes of visitors and heaps of profits, all earmarked for exciting future educational escapades. And guess what’s on the horizon? Brace yourselves, because next term, we’re embarking on a thrilling journey through the realm of togas and temples: Ancient Greece, here we come! ️ Get ready for a whirlwind of myths, legends, and epic adventures!

Term 1

This term in Year 5, we have been getting stuck into our Stone Age to the Iron Age topic and using it as a focus across our work.  We have created clan staffs, named our own wolf cub and worked on cave paintings.  Amongst non fiction texts such as instructions and adverts, we have been reading the book ‘Wolf Brother’, a fantastic Stone Age set story that has excellent vocabulary and inference for a Year 5 child.  They have been busy in Art designing and testing out their print making skills to eventually create a pencil case and for Black History Week, we created a poster all about the England squad’s first black player, Laurie Cunningham.  Next term, we’ll be moving on to the Bronze and Iron Ages and learning more about how the world changed over this huge and significant period of time.
